Re: Features I think would be usefull - now or in future.
The UltraSmartCharger already does a lot of those things. To be honest with you, I'm dubious about a lot of the things that you're suggesting that the charger doesn't already do. Do you have anything that you can point me to that indicates a benefit to any of your specific suggestions that aren't al...

Re: Eneloops: 5000 cycles and still going...
Any progress? Sorry - I haven't got to it yet... I have previously look at IEC testing methods - If I recall correctly, the biggest hurdle in implementing them is to maintain consistent room temperature. Another difficulty was that the testing that I was looking at was at relatively low rates and f...

Re: Would this slow drain damage an LSD battery - or good idea?
I haven't done any specific testing with regards to this (although I have thought about doing testing) Based just on my own anecdotal experience, I would say that slow deep discharging NiMH cells can help to reduce IR and improve capacity on cells that have developed high resistance. The improvement...

Re: 2AA charger availabilty
Unfortunately, it looks like Paul has stopped selling the chargers - sorry.
It has been a while since I've been in contact with Paul, so I'll try getting back in touch and see if he's planning to start offering them again in the future...

Thanks for that - it looks like it's using pretty much the same method as the UltraSmartCharger!

Re: How to keep NIMH cells from turning to the Dark Side.
Yes, the cells are used in sets and charged together. The kids are too small to change the batteries in their toys yet, so I'm the one doing that.
All of my cells are labelled, so I can track how they're going and how many cycles they've been put through, etc.

Re: How to keep NIMH cells from turning to the Dark Side.
Working in the other direction, I think it's useful to look at what actually kills cells - and then try to avoid doing that. From my own experience, I would say that damage is done to cells at both high charge and low charge states - the actual damage done is possibly different in each case, but the...

Re: Current status of NIMH knowledge re heat and %/C chargin
The way that the UltraSmartCharger works is to use high frequency PWM to step down the voltage (and increase the current) from power supply - the effective output that the cell should be seeing is a constant current with a little bit of ripple. I don't think that I've done any charging at 1400 mA, s...

Re: Ikea Ladda (AA) Accelerated Cycle Testing
Unfortunately, I don't think that these cells are still available for purchase anywhere, so this probably isn't of too much use to anyone any more... I did leave a pair of these Ikea cells sitting for 12 months - one dropped down to 1056 mAh - the other dropped to 454 mAh - I suspect that the later ...
