Re: 2AA charger availabilty

Unfortunately, it looks like Paul has stopped selling the chargers - sorry.

It has been a while since I've been in contact with Paul, so I'll try getting back in touch and see if he's planning to start offering them again in the future...

Thanks for that - it looks like it's using pretty much the same method as the UltraSmartCharger!

Re: How to keep NIMH cells from turning to the Dark Side.

Yes, the cells are used in sets and charged together. The kids are too small to change the batteries in their toys yet, so I'm the one doing that.

All of my cells are labelled, so I can track how they're going and how many cycles they've been put through, etc.

Re: How to keep NIMH cells from turning to the Dark Side.

Working in the other direction, I think it's useful to look at what actually kills cells - and then try to avoid doing that. From my own experience, I would say that damage is done to cells at both high charge and low charge states - the actual damage done is possibly different in each case, but the...

Re: Current status of NIMH knowledge re heat and %/C chargin

The way that the UltraSmartCharger works is to use high frequency PWM to step down the voltage (and increase the current) from power supply - the effective output that the cell should be seeing is a constant current with a little bit of ripple. I don't think that I've done any charging at 1400 mA, s...

Re: Ikea Ladda (AA) Accelerated Cycle Testing

Unfortunately, I don't think that these cells are still available for purchase anywhere, so this probably isn't of too much use to anyone any more... I did leave a pair of these Ikea cells sitting for 12 months - one dropped down to 1056 mAh - the other dropped to 454 mAh - I suspect that the later ...

Unfortunately, I haven't got around to analyzing the results on those tests even though the tests finished a while ago.

I'll have to try and get them done some time soon...

Re: Current status of NIMH knowledge re heat and %/C chargin

I'm not sure what the effect of using duty cycle on the charging current has on the number of cycles that can be achieved. In my opinion, using a higher current with a reduced duty cycle will lead to higher cell temperatures which I would expect to be detrimental to the number of cycles that can be ...

Re: Purple LEDs?

That's good to hear - thanks for confirming.

I'm curious as to what went wrong: Was this charger working previously, or did you only just get it?
